Most people who ask about longevity care start with the same two questions. What actually happens? And can it work without ever setting foot in a clinic?
The short answer is yes, as long as the care starts with real lab work and a real conversation. Telehealth changes where your visits happen. It should not change how carefully your results are read. This guide walks through what longevity care is, how a telehealth consultation works in New York and New Jersey, how to prepare, what to ask, and what to watch for when you compare practices.
What Longevity Care Is, and What It Is Not
Longevity care looks at where your health is heading, not only whether something is wrong today. It uses detailed bloodwork to spot trends early, often years before a routine panel would flag them, and then tracks those markers over time.
A few things it is not:
- It is not a replacement for your primary care doctor. Keep your yearly physical, your screenings, and your regular doctor.
- It is not a promise of extra years. No honest practice can tell you how long you will live. What it can do is measure, explain, and track what is changing.
- It is not a menu. A protocol picked from a list before anyone has seen your labs is not personalized care.
How Telehealth Longevity Care Works at Veda Health
Who can be seen
Veda Health cares for adults 18 and older. You need to be physically located in New York or New Jersey at the time of each visit, because care is delivered under state licensure.
The consultation
Your first visit is a private, one-on-one video consultation with your physician. You talk through your health history, how you feel day to day, and what you want to change. An intake form gives your physician a head start, but it never stands in for the conversation.
Your lab work
Your physician orders a full panel, and you complete the draw at a lab site near you. Many of the markers go beyond a standard panel. Our guide to five biomarkers worth knowing explains several of them.
Your review
Your physician reads your labs, your health history, and your goals together, then walks you through what the numbers show. If your labs do not support a protocol, you will hear that plainly.
Retesting
Your markers are read again at 90 days. That comparison shows whether anything actually moved, and your plan is adjusted from there.
Between visits
Your physician and care team stay reachable between reviews, with a response within 24 hours.
What Telehealth Can and Cannot Do
Telehealth works well for reviewing labs, talking through history, and tracking change over time. It has limits too. Your physician cannot perform a physical exam by video, and some concerns need to be seen in person. When that is the case, you will be referred to in-person care.
If you ever have a medical emergency, call 911. Telehealth is not built for urgent care.
How to Prepare for Your First Consultation
A little preparation makes your first visit far more useful.
- Gather your past bloodwork. Older results turn one snapshot into a trend.
- List everything you take daily. Include vitamins, supplements, and powders, with doses if you know them.
- Write down your family history. Heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and early deaths in parents or siblings all matter.
- Note how you sleep, train, and recover. Data from a fitness tracker or sleep ring is welcome.
- Bring your goals. "More energy in the afternoon" is a better starting point than "optimize everything."
- Bring your questions. The list below is a good place to start.
Questions to Ask Before You Start
- Who reads my labs? You should know the name of the physician reviewing your results.
- What will be tested, and why? Each marker on your order should have a reason behind it.
- Which numbers are measured, and which are calculated? Some common values are estimates.
- When will my labs be repeated? Without a retest, there is no way to know whether anything changed.
- What happens if my labs do not support a protocol? A good answer is "we tell you."
- What does the evidence show, and where is it limited? You deserve a plain answer, including what the research does not yet establish.
- What does each part cost, and what is not included? Consultation, labs, and program fees can all be billed separately.
- How do I reach my care team between visits? Ask how quickly you can expect a reply.
- How do you work with my primary care doctor? Your results should be easy to share.
- What happens if I want to stop? You should never feel locked in.
What Longevity Care Costs
Costs vary from person to person, because no two plans are the same. At Veda Health, there are no membership tiers. Your consultation and program fees are disclosed before you commit, and lab work is billed separately.
After your consultation and lab work, your physician presents a complete cost breakdown, including what is not included. There are no surprises and no pressure to decide on the spot.
Does Insurance Cover Longevity Care in New York and New Jersey?
Most longevity services fall outside traditional insurance coverage. Veda Health is a cash-pay practice and does not bill insurance.
We can provide a superbill you may be able to submit for reimbursement through an HSA or FSA plan. Some lab tests may be covered by your own plan, depending on how they are ordered. Check with your insurer or plan administrator to confirm what applies to you.
Red Flags When Comparing Longevity Practices
- A plan is offered before anyone has looked at your labs.
- Every patient seems to get the same package.
- You are promised added years, a younger "biological age," or guaranteed results.
- There is no retest date, only an ongoing order.
- Pricing is vague, or only shared after you sign up.
- You cannot find out who is actually reviewing your results.
- You feel pushed to commit on the first call.
How Veda Health Approaches Longevity Care
Every plan at Veda Health starts with your bloodwork. Your physician reads every panel personally, and nothing goes into your protocol unless your labs give a reason for it. You are told why each part of your plan was chosen, and what was left out.
Your markers are read again at 90 days, and only what earns its place stays. Learn more about custom longevity protocols, explore our programs, or read about Dr. Kevin Thomas.
